How we compare robot mowers

MowSheet is a spec sheet and a yard matcher, not a test lab. We collect each brand's published ratings, re-check them on a schedule and rank by the numbers.

What is listed

30 robot mowers from Segway Navimow, Mammotion, Dreame, ECOVACS, ANTHBOT, Lymow and Worx. A model is added once it is on sale in the US and its price, lawn area and slope rating can be confirmed, and removed when it is discontinued. This is not every robot mower on the market.

Where specs come from

Lawn area, slope, navigation, drive, noise and cutting height are the brand's published ratings. Each mower page links to its source and shows the date the specs were last verified; two mowers are re-checked every day, oldest first. When a brand's page leaves a figure out we use a reputable retailer or review listing if the sources agree, and leave it blank if they do not. Rated lawn area and slope are the brand's claims, not our measurements.

Prices

For most brands, price and stock are read from the brand's own US store every day. For brands whose stores cannot be read automatically, prices are checked by hand. Each mower page shows the date its price was checked.

The yard matcher

The yard matcher compares what you enter (lawn size, slope, tree cover) with each mower's rated area, slope rating and navigation type. It tells you which mowers are rated for a yard like yours; it cannot promise how one will behave on your lawn.

Accessories

Replacement blades and garages are listed next to a mower only where the mower's maker states it: the accessory's listing names the model, its series, or all of the maker's mowers. Where the wording names a series, we also show the maker's own listing that sells the mower under that series name. Each accessory page quotes the statement, links to it and shows the date we last found it there; a script re-checks every pairing and price daily. We have not tested any accessory and do not list third-party parts.

Rankings

Every "best" pick is computed. Best value is the lowest price per acre of rated coverage among wire-free mowers. Lists such as steep slopes or yards with trees are filters on published specs, for example a slope rating of 80% or more, sorted by rating or price.

What we do not do

• We do not test products hands-on, and nothing on this site is presented as a test result.
• We do not accept payment for placement, and commission rates are never an input to a ranking.
• We do not publish user reviews or star ratings.
